The Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences was hit by a cyber attack on July 6, 2024, when unidentified cybercriminals gained access to the university’s IT systems. The purpose of this security breach is still unknown.
The attack was neutralized thanks to the rapid reaction of the university’s IT group, which in approximately 45 minutes adopted security measures such as blocking external access to IT systems and deactivating some services.
The illicit event coincided with the exam and enrollment period for students, causing inconvenience both to them and the university structure.
A week after the cyber attack, the university announced that, although some services are still being restored, the online enrollment platform has started working again and that the number of enrollment applications received has been gratifying.
