What happened

The international company Sibanye-Stillwater, a leader in the mining of platinum, gold, palladium, and other precious metals in South Africa, the USA, Finland, France, and Australia, announced that on Monday 8 July 2024, it was hit by a cyber-attack. However, mining activity has not been affected by extraction and processing operations.

The cyber-attack affected the company’s global IT system, knocking out the company server. The company announced that countermeasures were immediately adopted to protect its data through proactive isolation of the IT system.

After the incident, several experts were tasked to restore the system and identify those responsible for the attack. No ransom request has currently been received by the company.
