The WHO “Weekly Bulletin on Outbreaks and other Emergencies” for week 26 (24 to 30 June 2024) reports that the outbreak has affected 16 states and 129 Local Government Areas (LGAs). There have been 8,827 suspected cases. Out of these, 6,028 cases, which is 68.3%, have been confirmed. This includes 371 cases confirmed by laboratory testing, 515 by epidemiological linkage, and 5,142 by clinical compatibility. A total of 1,883 cases tested negative and have been excluded, while 916 cases remain pending or their status is unknown. The outbreak has led to 101 confirmed fatalities, resulting in a case fatality rate (CFR) of 1.6%. The states reporting the highest numbers of confirmed fatalities are Kano, with 66 deaths and a Case Fatality Rate (CFR) of 65.0%, Borno with a CFR of 13.0% (13 deaths), and Jigawa with a CFR of 2.0% (2 deaths). Other impacted states include Bauchi, Katsina, Yobe, and the Federal Capital Territory.
