What happened

As police and local media reported, a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) went off at a cafe in Mogadishu, killing five people and wounding 20 others. The explosion occurred at the Top Coffee restaurant in central Mogadishu, while football fans were watching the Euro 2024 final between Spain and England. According to the Somali National News Agency (SONNA), the device was planted by the Kharijite group, a term used to refer to the Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab group.
