Cybercriminal groups are increasingly targeting hospital facilities. This time, the hacker group known as LockBit Ransomware attacked Fairfield Memorial Hospital in Illinois (USA). The Illinois Hospital offers a wide range of medical services, and this attack has caused several disruptions. Indeed, a cyber attack on a hospital does not only damage the facility; it also endangers the patients who rely on the institution’s care.
The cyberattack was claimed by the LockBit Ransomware gang, who published some samples on the Tor platform and demanded a ransom. The extortion group has declared its intention to release the stolen data on July 17, 2024. The group has claimed responsibility for hacking various hospitals, according to Hack Manack researchers. This extortion group has also acknowledged orchestrating recent cyberattacks on the Merryman House Domestic Crisis Center and the Florida Department of Health.
