Public health experts have declared a health emergency due to numerous dengue cases in El Salvador. Approximately 27 children have been hospitalized, five of whom are in serious health condition.Â
The head of the Ministry of Health, Francesco Alabi, reported that one death has already occurred due to dengue. There are still no adequate means for fighting the epidemic, and often the only available measures are symptomatic treatments.
Recently, the states of Guatemala and Honduras also issued their first public alerts regarding the dengue outbreak.
