Italy issues test chemical alert for accident risk at industrial plant in Milan

On 3 July, according to official sources, tests will be carried out on the risk of major accidents at the Italmach Chemical Spa plant in Arese, the Industrial Ese Srl plant in Arluno and the Olon Spa plant in Rodano, all in the Milan area. The test indicates that citizens within approximately a three-kilometer radius of the plants will receive an IT-alert message on their mobile phones, warning them about a simulated toxic cloud leakage from a local facility. The aim of the exercise, coordinated by the Prefectural Coordination Centre (CCS), is to test the effectiveness of the intervention measures and the necessary procedures contained in the company’s external emergency plan. The exercise is also designed to evaluate the region’s response capabilities in civil protection emergencies.
