The US Department of Defence has allocated new funds for the Conventional Prompt Strike (CPS) project. Lockheed Martin has received $534m to support engineering, development, and testing. The programme aims to develop hypersonic boost-glide missiles, manoeuvrable while travelling at a Mach 5 speed, five times the speed of sound. The new system will be used on the Zumwalt-class destroyers and the Virginia-class nuclear-powered fast-attack submarines.
