What happened

The death toll from a series of suicide bombings in north-eastern Nigeria has risen to 32, with at least 42 people seriously injured, officials say. The series of deadly blasts is believed to have been carried out by female suicide bombers. In one of the three blasts in the town of Gwoza, a woman with a baby strapped to her back detonated explosives during a wedding ceremony, state police said. The kamikaze women also targeted a hospital in the same town, across the border from Cameroon. Another attack took place at the funeral of the victims of the wedding blast.

So far, no one has claimed responsibility for the series of attacks. However, the insurgents of the Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP) have previously claimed responsibility for deadly attacks in Borno. Borno State is at the centre of a 15-year-long uprising, led by the Islamic militants of Boko Haram, which has caused the displacement of over two million people and the death of more than 40,000 people.
