What happened

The Jenin refugee camp saw a night Israeli operation that ended with the death of the commander of the sniper team of the Haruv reconnaissance unit. Seventeen other soldiers were injured when they came across explosive devices; ten had minor injuries and seven were in moderate condition. Despite the implementation of preventive measures, including bulldozers for detecting concealed explosives, it would appear that these devices were positioned at a depth not identified during the initial clearance process.

The operation was part of a series of counter-terrorism activities conducted by Israeli security forces in refugee camps since the beginning of the Gaza War on 7 October 2023. The IDF is currently investigating the incident.
