The official accounts of Alexis Bank and Canara Bank on X (ex Twitter) were hacked within a few days of each other. In Canara Bank’s case, the hackers changed the username to ‘ether.fi’. The @canarabank account has 255,000 followers, but the bank has still not taken any action in response to the attack. Until 1:30 p.m. on June 23, 2024, no new posts have been made after the hacking.
Meanwhile, during the attack on Alexis Bank’s X account on the night of June 17, the hackers posted about Tesla, Elon Musk’s company. On June 18, Alexis Bank informed users through a post, acknowledging the hack and promising to resolve the issue. They also advised users to ignore posts during the incident and avoid clicking unauthorized links. In another post, Alexis Bank emphasized that the bank never requests personal data, OTPs, or PINs and apologized for any inconvenience caused.
Both incidents highlight the need for robust cybersecurity measures and swift responses to social media account breaches.
