A boy was injured after an improvised explosive device (IED) went off at a petrol station in Lamitan City, Basilan. According to the provincial government, he was passing through the area when the explosion occurred. It partially damaged the cover of a fuel dispenser and caused minor injuries to the boy. Authorities recovered parts of the IED, including a nine-volt battery, detonators, and powder. Police believe extortion might be the motive behind the incident as the owner of the petrol station reportedly revealed that he had received an extortion letter last month.
