What happened

The company providing essential services such as laboratory tests and main partner of London hospitals, Synnovis, has been the victim of a cyber attack, mainly a ransomware attack.
The attack had a ripple effect across major London hospitals, including St Thoma’s, the Royal Brompton, and the Evelina London Children’s Hospital. Several patients have suffered inconvenience due to canceled laboratory tests.
The attack against Synnovis severely affected service delivery, particularly blood transfusions and test results. All this happened because the company’s main server was attacked.
In order not to further aggravate the situation in hospitals, some measures have been adopted, such as the cancellation of some services or the redirection of the same to other suppliers of the National Health System. Furthermore, the continuation of emergency treatment was guaranteed.
After the incident, Synnovis sent a team of IT experts to assess the impact. On the other hand, the National Health Service is working with the National Cyber Security Center to understand it better.
This latest cyber attack against the London National Health System highlights the importance of robust contingency plans and investments in cybersecurity to prevent risks to human victims due to cyber attacks.
