In the Tyrrhenian Sea aboard the Italian Navy’s aircraft carrier Cavour, a training exercise was conducted to evaluate the cyber resilience of the platform system networks. The trial was conducted during the Italian Navy’s Open Sea 24/Polaris exercise, a joint effort between DEAS Spa and the Fincantieri Group, focusing on implementing response tactics within an integrated conflict situation. Specifically, the Italian and French navy crews gauged the effects of cyber actions on the functionality of naval, civilian, and military platforms and the success of their missions.
Cyber scenarios have prompted the creation of “Archimedes,” a tool designed to simulate cyber attacks to amplify the kinetic impact on navigational parameters and evaluate crew response capabilities. Statements to the press indicate that the outcomes of the maneuvers will be valuable not only for military operations but also for the civilian sector, which is becoming increasingly targeted by physical and cyber attacks.
