The Italian Society of Pediatrics (SIP) has issued a public health alert regarding a resurgence of pertussis, or whooping cough, affecting primarily unvaccinated infants. Between January and May of 2024, 110 hospitalisations were reported in Italy, with over 15 in intensive care units (ICU) of infants. Three newborns also died as a consequence of this disease. Specifically, the data suggested an 800% increase in hospital admissions compared to the previous year.
