What happened

According to the regional police chief, two explosions occurred in the Jok Irong and Sukhirin districts of Narathiwat in southern Thailand. The explosions killed one person and injured 13 others, including a police officer.

The first blast hit defense volunteers who were patrolling the streets of Jok Irong, injuring six of them. According to initial reconstructions, the police found explosive device fragments that had been placed in a gas cylinder on the roadside. The second explosion occurred as a roadside improvised explosive device went off in Sukhirin district wounding seven defense volunteers. One of them died later in the hospital. So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
