A hand-grenade originally aimed at a roadblock and fired by men on motorbikes exploded near an auto rickshaw on the Sabzal road on the outskirts of Quetta, Pakistan. The explosion led to one fatality and thirteen injuries, including a woman. At least three of the injured are critically wounded. In an effort to arrest those responsible for the attack, security forces have cordoned off the area and launched search operations, local media stated.
The episode is set against the backdrop of a similar incident in Kohat, where unidentified individuals hurled a grenade at a police station. In that instance, however, the grenade did not detonate. The police have announced the initiation of an operation in the area to apprehend attackers. The Counter-Terrorism Department has filed an FIR and commenced investigations.
