A military patrol of the Southern Transitional Council’s Shabwah Defense Troops was hit by a roadside bomb in Ataq, the capital of Shabwah Province, Yemen. The explosion demolished the vehicle, resulting in the death of two soldiers and injuries to five others. The Yemeni al-Qaeda network in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), known for numerous high-profile attacks against security forces in the southern provinces, is being blamed by local sources for the incident. AQAP indeed has taken advantage of the prolonged deadly conflict between the Yemeni government and the Houthi militia to increase its influence in the war-torn Arab nation.
