The U.S. Army has granted Lockheed Martin a $451 million contract for the upgrade of additional M270 missile launchers, as part of the ongoing effort to ensure the operational availability of these systems through 2025. This modernization process will involve a complete system overhaul, enhancing the launcher’s capabilities, and ensuring its effectiveness and interoperability with NATO forces. The recapitalization will include the installation of new engines, enhanced armored cabs, and integration of the new Common Fire Control System (CFCS) that will ensure compatibility with current and future munitions of the MLRS Family of Munitions (MFOM). This operation is part of a strategy with which the United States aims to increase interoperability with its allies and extend the lifespan of its equipment.
