A heavy goods vehicle carrying canisters of peracetic acid, a compound utilized in hospitals, was involved in a collision with a car on the A21 motorway near the Nure Sud service area in Piacenza, Italy. The crash resulted in the death of the driver and the intoxication of seven people. Initial reconstruction of the accident dynamics indicates that the lorry overturned, spilling the acid tanks and jerrycans on board. This led to the poisoning of the three individuals in the car and four others who came to help those trapped inside the vehicle’s passenger compartment. Rescue services, including a specialised Nbcr Team to deal with the acid spillage, responded to the scene.
