What happened

The Simone Veil Hospital in Cannes has fallen victim to a hacker attack by the ransomware cybergang Lockbit, which claimed responsibility and published 61 GB of sensitive data on the dark web. Indeed, as is customary for these cybercriminal groups, after not receiving the ransom from the victim, they sell the stolen data in the vast illegal market of the dark web. The published data includes banking information and pay slips of patients and hospital staff. Additionally, among the stolen data are health check-ups, pediatric and psychiatric reports of patients, and in short, sensitive and personal data. The hospital management is working on qualifying the stolen data to provide feedback to the affected individuals and institutions. The feared risk by the hospital management is that the data published on the dark web may be exploited for malicious purposes such as phishing and identity theft.
