The Africa CDC’s Weekly Event-Based Surveillance Report, dated 28 April 2024, indicates that the Ministry of Health (MoH) has reported seven new confirmed cases of measles with no new fatalities. This represents a 72% reduction in new cases since the last report. To date, there have been 220 confirmed cases and no deaths across 33 of Senegal’s 45 districts. Of these cases, 51% were male and 40% were children aged 5 to 15 years. Additionally, 73% of those infected had not been vaccinated against the measles virus. In 2022, the national vaccination coverage for measles among children under five years old in Senegal stood at 66%.
