What happened

The Africa CDC’s Weekly Event Based Surveillance Report indicates that the Ministry of Health (MoH) has reported 1,095 new cases of measles (375 confirmed; 720 suspected) and one new death (case fatality rate: 0.1%) from the Souss Massa region. This represents a 58% increase in the number of new cases compared to the previous update. To date, 4,081 cases of measles (1,359 confirmed; 2,722 suspected) have been reported cumulatively from the Souss Massa region. Additionally, eight deaths (CFR: 0.2%) have been recorded. A total of 35% of cases were in children between the ages of 8 months and 11 years. This is a protracted outbreak that commenced in October 2023. In the year 2021, the percentage of one-year-old children in Morocco vaccinated against measles reached 99%.
