What happened

The Africa CDC’s Weekly Event Based Surveillance Report – Africa CDC Epidemic Intelligence Report (28 April 2024) indicates that the Ministry of Health reported 922 cases (56 confirmed and 866 suspected) and nine new deaths (CFR: 1.0%) due to measles across 10 counties. In total, there have been 1,079 cases (166 confirmed; 913 suspected) and 11 deaths (CFR: 1.0%) reported from 10 out of 47 counties since the outbreak began in January 2023. The national measles vaccination coverage for children under one year old in Kenya was 78% in 2023.
