In the Africa CDC’s Weekly Event Based Surveillance Report, dated 28 April 2024, the Ministry of Health (MoH) reported 577 newly suspected cases and one additional death (CFR: 0.2%), attributed to measles, from 11 districts. This represents a 53% decrease in the number of new cases reported compared to the preceding update. In total, 5,999 cases of suspected measles and 94 deaths (CFR: 1.6%) have been recorded in 20 of the 49 districts in Burundi. In 2023, the national coverage of measles vaccination among children below two years of age in Burundi was estimated to be 81%.
