The Africa CDC’s Weekly Event Based Surveillance Report (28 April 2024) states that the Ministry of Health (MoH) recorded 560 new suspected measles cases and one new death (CFR: 0.2%) across eight regions, marking a 55% decrease in new cases since the last report. To date, there have been 8,315 cases (362 confirmed and 7,953 suspected) and 38 deaths (CFR: 0.5%) reported from all regions in Burkina Faso. Of these cases, 51% were males and 65% were children under five years old. Additionally, 7% of the confirmed cases had been vaccinated against the measles virus. In 2022, the national measles vaccination coverage for children under five in Burkina Faso reached 96%.
