What happened

The Africa CDC’s Weekly Event-Based Surveillance Report – Africa CDC Epidemic Intelligence Report (28 April 2024) indicates that the MoH has reported 750 new cholera cases, including 9 confirmed cases and 741 suspected cases. Additionally, 13 new deaths have been reported, with a case fatality rate (CFR) of 1.7%. This represents a 28% increase in the number of new cases compared to last update. To date, 17,800 cases (2,185 confirmed; 15,615 suspected) and 370 deaths (CFR: 2.1%) of cholera have been reported from 61 of 64 districts in Zimbabwe this year. The outbreak, which began in February 2023, has been a prolonged one.
