The Africa CDC’s Weekly Event Based Surveillance Report – Africa CDC Epidemic Intelligence Report (28 April 2024) indicates that the Ministry of Health has reported 735 new cholera cases (32 confirmed and 703 suspected) and six new deaths (CFR: 0.8%) from five states in Somalia. This represents a 17% increase in new cases since the last report. To date, there have been 7,970 cases (580 confirmed; 7,390 suspected) and 81 deaths (CFR: 1.0%) reported from five of the seven states in Somalia this year. Children under five years old constitute 58% of the total cases. The ongoing outbreak began in 2022 and has roots dating back to 2017 in the Banadir region.
