What happened

The explosion in Elwak Town, Mandera County, resulted in the death of 13 people after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonated on a donkey cart. Among the victims were ten non-locals and three locals, including two taxi drivers. Non-local residents such as teachers, nurses, and police officers were targeted. Immediately following the incident, security operations were initiated; however, no arrests were made. Officials suspect the attack was carried out by al-Shabaab terrorists or their sympathizers. Mandera governor Mohamed Khalif condemned the attack and urged citizens to remain vigilant. This incident adds to ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in the region.

Furthermore, on 13 April, gunmen suspected to be al-Shabaab militants raided a local hospital and subjected the guards on duty to intimidation and violence.
