What happened

According to the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Abubakar Mohammed and Bana Modu, identified as experts in crafting improvised explosive devices (IEDs) for Boko Haram, surrendered to troops in Borno state. Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, the military spokesman, reported this in a statement from Maiduguri. The suspects, both under the age of 30, surrendered during a clearance operation by the troops. Upon interrogation, they revealed that their Boko Haram commanders instructed them to plant IEDs on roads leading to Doron Baga and a fish farm in Baga, both in Kukawa LGA. Instead of carrying out this mission, they decided to abandon it, taking the IEDs with them, and surrendered to the MNJTF. This decision was influenced by the recent Operation NASHRUL SALAM, a non-kinetic operation, and the sector’s engagement strategy with relevant sources, highlighting the effectiveness of psychological operations in counter-terrorism efforts. Mr. Abdullahi emphasized the MNJTF’s commitment to encouraging other terrorists in Lake Chad to surrender and lay down their arms, pledging thorough efforts to rid the region of terrorism and ensure lasting peace.
