In Macerata (Italy), a residential and commercial area was cordoned off and road traffic was interrupted due to the risk of explosions caused by a gas leak resulting from work to lay fibre optic cables. For safety reasons, the electricity supply to the entire area was also cut to prevent accidental triggering. Italgas technicians worked with the fire brigade and their special vehicles to repair the leak. Six households were evacuated as a precaution. No damage to property or persons reported.
