The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Government of Japan have collaborated to enhance digital health services in Latin America and the Caribbean. A contribution of $5 million has been made by Japan to the Pan-American Highway for Digital Health Initiative, which is led by the IDB, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), and countries from the region. Digital health is a key topic on the G20 Agenda, which is currently being led by Brazil. The Pan-American Highway for Digital Health seeks to coordinate and accelerate country priorities at the regional level.
The Pan-American Highway for Digital Health aims to ensure a prompt response to pandemics and continuity of healthcare, building on the progress made following the COVID-19 pandemic. It promotes interoperability and the exchange of health information by digitizing clinical data, enabling patients to access and share vital details such as vaccination status, allergies, diagnosis, or prescriptions.
