The Chinese National Nuclear Safety Administration has issued an operating license for Unit 4 of the Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Plant, situated in the Guangxi Autonomous Region of southern China. This unit, with a capacity of 1 GW, is the second of two Hualong One reactors at the site, alongside Unit 3. The plant is expected to be operational in the first half of 2024 and is part of a larger plan for six reactors. Unit 3 commenced commercial operation in March 2023 after experiencing delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, Unit 4’s hot functional testing began in September 2023.
