What happened

The Australian Government has selected the British company BAE Systems to build Australia’s new fleet of nuclear-powered submarines, as part of the trilateral security agreement between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America (AUKUS). According to official sources, the SSN-AUKUS is set to become the most sophisticated attack submarine ever operated by the Royal Navy, commencing the replacement of the Astute class from the late 2030s, which BAE Systems is constructing in Barrow-in-Furness, North West England. Australia anticipates the delivery of its inaugural SSN-AUKUS submarine in the early 2040s.
