One killed, eleven injured in terrorist attack near Jerusalem checkpoint

An Israeli man was killed, and eleven others injured in a terrorist attack carried out by three Palestinian gunmen near a checkpoint between Jerusalem and the West Bank settlement city of Ma’ale Adumim. The terrorists opened fire with automatic weapons on Israelis waiting in traffic as they headed towards Jerusalem on the Route 1 highway. According to law enforcement officials, two of the gunmen were shot dead by security forces and armed civilians at the scene. The third gunman initially fled but was subsequently “neutralised” following a police search of the area. According to local sources, the risk that the lines at West Bank checkpoints were a deadly trap had long been reported.
